No messing about as Flood returns to Tannadice

Willo Flood has joined Championship side Dundee United for his fourth spell at the club.

No less than an hour after his former employers Aberdeen had announced the 31-year-old’s departure from their club, his new employers Dundee United announced his arrival.

The midfielder, who made 80 appearances for The Dons during his three-year spell at Pittodrie, has signed a one-year deal at Tannadice.

Speaking of his departure, Dons boss Derek McIness said: “Everyone at Aberdeen FC wishes Willo well. He was as significant a signing that I’ve made since I came here and has played a pivotal role both on and off the park and has been a pleasure to work with.

“I really appreciated his demanding nature and he’s a very popular figure around the place. We wish Willo all the very best with whatever club he continues his career at and he’ll always be welcome back at Pittodrie in the future.”

While his new manager, Ray McKinnon, spoke of his arrival: “Willo is a fantastic footballer who can dictate games from the middle of the park. I have been chasing him since I came in. He is quality.

“He is the ideal player for us with his experience and ability. Willo is a winner who sets standards and on the training field which will be great for the young players within the squad.

“We need to ensure consistency in our performances and Willo will demand that of his teammates.”

We understand that Flood could make his 153rd appearance for The Tangerines when they kick-off their League Cup campaign against Arbroath tomorrow night.
