News at 9: Hearts in for Tony Watt and Gareth Bale to Ross County

WATT’S UP WITH HEARTS? Hearts are in talks with former Celtic kid Tony Watt over a season-long loan deal. The 22-year-old, who is on the fringes of the Scotland team, is currently at Charlton although he spent much of last season on loan spells at Cardiff and Blackburn. His signature would provide competition for Juanma and the far from prolific Conor Sammon. Tony Watt, is also the only man in history to have ever scored against Barcelona and gone out to Bamboo in the same night.

OVER THE HILL: Clint Hill has tonight become the oldest ever player to make their Rangers’ debut, when he started Rangers’ Betfred Cup clash with Annan Athletic, aged 37 years, eight months and 30 days. However, he’ll have to stick around for a few years if he wants to become the Gers’ eldest player, with Davie Weir remarkably playing until he was 41.

SHANKLAND RETURNS: Lawrence Shankland will spend another season in Paisley, after agreeing to join St Mirren on loan from Aberdeen once again for this campaign. The 20-year-old scored ten goals last season and has been sent back to gain more experience.

Gareth Bale plays Royal Dornoch during a birthday break in the Highlands. Surely a suitably long-haired replacement for Jackson Irvine at County…

GREERY FUTURE AT BOLTON: As if relegation and finanicial turmoil for Bolton wasn’t bad enough, they’ve now taken Gordon Greer on trial! The Scotland international, 35, was a free agent after leaving Brighton at the end of last season.

AUCHO FINALLY SET FOR ABERDEEN TRIAL: Ugandan Khalid Aucho (who may or may not be a figment of our collective imagine) has been a bigger flirt than Taylor Swift over the past few months, teasing clubs and supporters. But the Gor Mahia holding midfielder is finally on his way to Aberdeen and is expected to join in training towards the end of the week and play in a match against Arbroath on Saturday.

THEY SAID…

“We are all looking forward to playing Celtic at Celtic Park. It’s one of those stadiums everybody wants to play in. It’s like going from Sunday league to Celtic Park in three years. It’s what dreams are made of.

“Last week was historic. Half of Gibraltar is still in shock.” (Lincoln Red Imps skipper Roy Chipolina, who is also a customs official)
