News at 9: Bilate slates Dundee and Scotland to name new captain

BILATE NOT A FAN OF DUNDEE: Former Dundee United striker won’t be getting a job at the Dundee tourism board any time soon. The Dutch striker who scored two goals in 16 months at Tannadice described the City of Discovery as a; “drab, gloomy, working-class town.” The 25-year-old who now plays for FC Den Bosch in his home country obviously didn’t enjoy his time in Scotland. He was released from his contract in November of last year and also claimed his injuries were misdiagnosed  by medical staff.

JUANMA TYNECASTLE HELL CONTINUES: Hearts outcast Juanma’s future at Hearts remains in the balance after his transfer out of the club fell through. The Spaniard had been expected to complete his move to Belgian club Waasland-Beveren but the deal collapsed. The 25-year-old bagged 13 goals in his debut season in Scotland but has fallen down the pecking order after the summer arrivals of Connor Sammon, Tony Watt and Robbie Muirhead.

FLETCHER TO BE HANDED ARMBAND: West Brom midfielder Darren Fletcher is expected to be named the permanent captain of Scotland after the retirement of Scott Brown. The 32-year-old previously held the armband before his well-documented illness meant he didn’t play competitive football for nearly two years.

RHODES TO TAKE FLIGHT: Norwich are leading the race to sign Scotland striker Jordan Rhodes. The 26-year-old moved to Middelsbrough in February for around £11 million and bagged eight goals as the Riverside club secured automatic promotion to the Premiership. However, he has fallen out of favour with Aitor Karanka and Canaries manager Alex Neil sees the former Blackburn forward as the perfect hit man to lead his club’s charge back to the Premiership.

THEY SAID

“Well, I don’t want to pull out halfway through a campaign, do I? Once my mind’s set, that’s it. For me there’s no going back.I’m quite stubborn that way and I think it’s good timing for pretty much everyone. I’ve done 11 hard seasons going away on international breaks, not seeing family, not having the chill-out time. So, I think it’s a good time for me to call it a day.” Scott Brown explains there will be no going back after announcing his retirement from international football
